TikTok is freaking out over ‘seeing’ Shawn Mendes in their rooms, at department stores and beyond

What’s the latest sound bite to captivate TikTok? Shawn Mendes as a singing crocodile.

For those unfamiliar, the Canadian pop star voiced the titular crocodile in 2022’s Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile. The musical comedy, which is based on Bernard Waber’s children’s book of the same name, tells the story of a young boy who befriends a singing crocodile named Lyle.

In the film’s opening scene, Lyle sings the now-trending “la la la la la” sound. Now, TikTokers are attaching that sound bite over a video of them encountering a “crocodile” in the most random locations.

Nicole (@c1trus_rush) allegedly ran into Shawn Mendes, aka Lyle, at Ross.

“WE CANNOT ESCAPE”

Unsurprisingly, TikTok users are playing along in the comments.

“i love this trend,” one user replied.

“I thought u were talking abt the purse,” someone commented.

“WE CANNOT ESCAPE,” another said.

Singer-songwriter Maisi (@yoitsmaisi) found Lyle at the U.K. supermarket Sainsbury’s — specifically in the toothbrush aisle.

“this sound has taken over my fyp and I’m not even sad about it”

“We’re so here for CrocTok,” someone wrote.

“That’s my toothbrush (sthu I know it’s for kids but idc),” another joked.

“this sound has taken over my fyp and I’m not even sad about it,” a user replied.

Meanwhile, TikTok user Spade (@spades.wonderful.world) spotted Lyle much closer to home.

“What’s Shawn mendes doing in there”

“This TREND is stuck in my head,” one user wrote.

“What’s Shawn mendes doing in there,” asked another.

“HELP LMAOOOO,” someone said.

From American department stores to English supermarkets, TikTok seems convinced that Shawn Mendes may be just anywhere — and everywhere.
