Three models over 35 walked the runway at Mary Katrantzou

Take for example the designer’s Spring/Summer 2015 runway extravaganza, shown yesterday in London, which was inspired by shifting Teutonic plates and the pre-historic separation of the Earth’s singular land mass and global ocean (otherwise known as Pangaea and Panthalassa). Aside from the intricate handiwork of her creations - where lace shifts looked as though they were covered in seaweed and bonded seed bead panels were emblematic of obsidian rock - Katrantzou’s fantastic outing also included a few familiar faces.
It was a return to the runway for Kirsten Owen, the 44-year-old English model who also walked in Katrantzou’s show last season. And while that would have been delightful enough, there was the added bonus of seeing Belgian beauty Anne-Catherine Lacroix (36), Swede Erika Wall (35), and - my personal favorite - the gamine Audrey Marnay (33), who recently hung up her runway stilettos to become an actress in France. In an industry that favors the young, how refreshing it was to see the waves of influence not only reflected in Katrantzou’s spectacular collection, but also in her casting. "Mary loves girls with personality and these iconic women are so special," says the designer’s casting director, Piergiorgio Del Moro. “They give something more! We started this idea three seasons ago and now are kind of unique, especially during the London shows.”
