Thomas Markle speaks out about Prince Charles walking Meghan down the aisle
He pulled out of his daughter’s wedding just days before it was due to take place and now Thomas Markle has spoken out about Prince Charles taking his place and walking Meghan Markle down the aisle.
The 73-year-old, who lives in Mexico, told TMZ he was ‘honoured and grateful’ Prince Charles will be there to escort his daughter at Windsor Castle today.
Thomas Markle also revealed that Meghan told him she loved him during a phone call earlier this week and he reassured her he’s recovering well from his surgery.
The ‘proud’ dad claimed he will be watching the whole thing on the TV from his home in Rosarito with friends.
It comes after Thomas sensationally dropped out of the wedding party after suffering from a heart attack and staging paparazzi photos.
Thomas later told TMZ that he had decided not to fly to London because he didn’t want to embarrass the royal family any further.
Just hours later, Meghan Markle released a statement about her father, confirming that he would not be attending.
“Sadly, my father will not be attending our wedding,” she said in a statement released by Kensington Palace.
“I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health.”
Yesterday it was announced that Meghan Markle had asked Prince Charles to walk her down the aisle in the place of her father, Thomas Markle.
“Ms Meghan Markle has asked His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to accompany her down the aisle of the Quire of St George’s Chapel on her Wedding Day,” the statement read.
“The Prince of Wales is pleased to be able to welcome Ms Markle to The Royal Family in this way.”
