Fans think The Simpsons predicted US Capitol riots

Fans of the Simpsons have taken to social media to point out that the long-running series seems to have correctly predicted yet another significant moment in history.

Twitter was flooded with screenshots from a recent episode of the Simpsons, which appear to predict the riots that took place at the US Capitol yesterday.

The US Capitol was breached by angry protesters who stormed the building following a mass rally where thousands cheered President Donald Trump’s baseless claims of election fraud.

The scenes were eerily similar to those in the the 31st annual Halloween episode of the show, which aired in the US on November 1, 2020.

In the episode, Homer fails to vote in the US election and what follows is an apocalyptic scene where fires burn across Springfield on Inauguration Day 2021.

“After today, I’m staring to believe the Simpson’s prediction,” one person said on Twitter.

“It’s happening. THE SIMPSONS ARE NEVER WRONG,” another said.

While a third wrote: “Again, The Simpsons saw it coming,” adding another side by side image of character Willy dressed as the rioter in the horned fur hat, right down to the tattoo - though it is reportedly fan art.

The building was locked down as Congress was in session to count and certify the Electoral College votes from the US election.

The same episode had already drummed up a reaction when it aired last year, with many pointing out the subtle jab at President Trump ahead of the 2020 US election.

Homer heads to a polling booth deliberating over who he should vote for as president, wondering if he can “write in Judge Judy”.

Lisa then storms saying ““Dad, by all that’s decent how could you forget everything that’s happened over the last four years?” she says.

The Simpsons’ eerie Trump prediction

The Simpsons also previously made the eerie prediction Trump would be president in the episode titled ‘Bart to the Future’.

The popular show aired the episode on March 19, 2000, and featured a look into the future for the main characters, and seemingly, the rest of America.

The episode concentrated around Lisa’s presidency, which she had just taken over from Trump.

At the time show writer Dan Greaney said Trump was chosen as the president as “a warning to America”.

A history of The Simpsons predictions

Fans of The Simpsons are convinced the cartoon foreshadowed the coronavirus outbreak 27 years ago, in an episode called ‘Marge in Chains’, where Springfield residents mail order ‘Juice Looseners’, which are shipped from Osaka in Japan.

It didn’t take long for the headline “The dreaded Osaka flu has hit Springfield with over 300 cases now reported” to be reported by local news anchor Kent Brockman.

Going even further back, a 1995 episode, where the show is set in the future, Lisa’s husband is shown speaking to a phone on his wrist. The first smart watch wasn’t created until 2013.

And in 1993, the show imitated Siegfried and Roy where the magicians got attacked by their trustworthy tiger.

In 2003 Roy was actually attacked by one of their white tigers during a live performance. He sustained injuries, but lived.
