The Block's Deanne 'blindsided' by marriage breakdown

The Block couple Darren and Deanne Jolly have split, following 13 years of marriage.

Deanne confirmed the sad news to the Herald Sun, saying she was ‘blindsided’ by the demise of their relationship.

"This is a very difficult time for me and my girls. We have been blindsided and left devastated by Darren’s action,” Deanne said.

"But I'm focusing on my two daughters who are my number one priority. Please respect our privacy while we move on."

Deanne and former Collingwood AFL player Darren are parents to 12-year-old Scarlett and 10-year-old Lily.

Relationship on show

The controversial couple, who became known for their tumultuous relationship on the show, appeared on the Channel Nine show in 2014 and again in 2015.

On The Block: Triple Threat, which aired in 2015, the couple walked away with nearly $1,000,000, despite constantly bickering throughout the series.

In their audition tape for the show, Deanne was heard saying: “Sometimes he's a bit insensitive”, while Darren said: “She can be short... she can snap.”

Deanne became known as ‘Hurricane Dea’ on the show, however her friends have told the Herald Sun that the reality star isn’t as explosive as people think.

“People always want to cast Dea as the villain. But in this situation she is anything but.”

They returned to the franchise for a guest appearance as recently as the beginning of this month, where they appeared alongside other former stars including Josh and Elyse, and Josh and Jenna.

Brain tumour battle

In 2015 the couple made headlines for a very different reason, with Darren revealing he had a brain tumour removed.

Speaking to A Current Affair at the time, the former sportsman said he thought it was just a bad headache at first, but went to the doctor after it didn’t go away after a few days.
