Terri Irwin 'digs deep' for Bindi's lavish baby shower

Despite Australia Zoo falling upon hard times during the coronavirus lockdown, it’s claimed Terri Irwin plans to go all out for daughter Bindi’s baby shower.

Bindi announced back in August that she is expecting her first child with husband Chandler Powell in an adorable Instagram post.

However, Terri will reportedly have to tap into personal savings if she wants to give the 22-year-old her dream day, as in June it was revealed on Crikey! It's the Irwins that the zoo was on the brink of collapse after being forced to close during lockdown.

"Sure, they've gone through hard times at the zoo, but Terri's digging deep into her personal savings to give Bindi and Chandler the best celebration ever, with live music, games and flower displays. And she's planning something big in the way of a special surprise guest,” a source told Woman’s Day.

"Terri is certain Steve would want his little girl to have everything and more on such a special day."

In June, Terri Irwin revealed on the family show that they were forced to cut jobs and made do with a small number of employees after Australia Zoo shut its doors when the coronavirus pandemic hit.

“I'm the pilot of a big plane and the plane is going down, and I'm handing out all the parachutes I've got. Sometimes at the end of the day I've just got my head in my hands wondering what we're going to do tomorrow,” Terri said on the show.

Bindi also said: “We have enough food to continue on for about six weeks, but after that we are going to seriously be running out of funds. I keep thinking, ‘Gosh I wish dad was here to help us out with everything’.”

Australia Zoo reopened on June 12th and in August, Bindi revealed she is expecting her first child.

The 22-year-old took to her Instagram account to make the exciting announcement to her 3.6 million fans, just over four months after marrying Chandler Powell in an intimate ceremony to beat coronavirus restrictions.

Holding up a tiny baby-sized khaki Australia Zookeeper outfit, the Queenslander posed alongside Chandler for an adorable photo.

“Baby Wildlife Warrior due 2021,” she started the post.

“Chandler and I are proud to announce that we’re expecting! It’s an honour to share this special moment in our lives with you.”

The Australia Zookeeper continued: “Though I’m still in my first trimester, we really want you to be part of our journey from the beginning of this new life chapter.

“We couldn’t wait to share the news as this beautiful little being has become the most important part of our lives. Your support means the world to us. Please let me know your best advice and send good vibes & prayers to our little sweetheart. Love & light.”

Chandler Powell shared the same photo to his account, alongside the caption: “We’re going to be parents!! We have a baby Wildlife Warrior on the way coming in 2021. Becoming a dad is the highlight of my life. I cannot wait to embark on this new adventure and life chapter with my gorgeous wife, @bindisueirwin. Bee, you’re going to be the most amazing mother.”

Bindi and Chandler marry at Australia Zoo

On March 25th, Bindi and and Chandler married in a ‘small ceremony’ at Australia Zoo after being forced to move everything forward due to the coronavirus.

Bindi’s dashed to tie the knot before restrictions come into effect in Australia, which only allowed five people to be present.

“March 25th 2020. We held a small ceremony and I married my best friend,” Bindi started the caption after sharing a photo of the day to her Instagram account.

“There are no words to describe the amount of love and light in my heart right now. We’ve planned this beautiful day for nearly a year and had to change everything, as we didn’t have guests at our wedding.

“This was a very difficult decision but important to keep everyone safe. We wish all of our friends and family could have been there with us, however it’s lovely that we will be able to share photos and videos.

“Right now we’re encouraging the world to hold onto hope and love, which will carry us forward during this profound time in history.

Bindi went on to say that she married in the Australia Zoo gardens, with her mum helping her getting ready and her brother Robert walking her down the aisle.

“Chandler became my husband and together we lit a candle in Dad’s memory. We shared tears and smiles and love. Thankfully, since we all live at Australia Zoo as a family, we could be there for each other. To everyone reading this - stay safe, social distance and remember LOVE WINS,” she finished.

How Bindi and Chandler met

Bindi and Chandler met in 2013, after the star took his family on a private tour of Australia Zoo in Queensland.

However, they didn’t start dating until July 2015, after Chandler reached out to Terri and asked if he could take Bindi out and they’ve been inseparable ever since.

The loved-up Australian star told the Australian Women’s Weekly in an interview in 2017 that she believes her dad would have approved of Chandler.

"I'm lucky I have found the one, the person I want to spend all of my time with," she said.

"Mum and Robert and I have talked about that a lot. We think dad would have loved Chandler."
