Taylor Lautner Defended Ex Selena Gomez Against Body Shamers in the Sweetest Way

Taylor Lautner is not down for body shaming—especially when it comes to one of his famous exes.

Following the Screen Actors Guild Awards on February 23, Selena Gomez received hateful comments online regarding her appearance at the awards show, with some suggesting that she had used weight loss drugs like Ozempic to look thinner. Lautner came out in defense of Gomez, and shared his thoughts on the cruel comments that have been surrounding her since the awards show.

The Twilight actor took to his Instagram Story to share side-by-side photos of Gomez at the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards on one side and the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards on the other. Insensitive remarks from users were printed over top both pictures. "It’s time for Ozempic” and “I remember when she used to be hot," were placed under her 2024 picture, while "skinnier isn’t prettier,” “she was a whale a couple of weeks ago,” and “she caved and go [Sic] on Ozempic I see" appeared beneath the current 2025 image.

"It’s a cruel world full of hate out there," Lautner wrote beneath the images. "You can never please everyone nor should you have to. In my experience, it doesn’t make the words sting less, it just refocuses you onto what matters. And it sure isn’t the shape, color, or appearance of your body. Daily reminder to all of us to not forget how beautiful you are inside and out…and to be a little bit nicer."

To further drive his point home, Lautner set his Instagram Story post to the Selena Gomez & the Scene song "Who Says," which includes the lines, "Who says, who says you're not perfect?/Who says you're not worth it?"

Lautner and Gomez briefly dated in 2009, while he was filming New Moon as part of the Twilight franchise, and she was filming Ramona and Beezus. One of Gomez's close friends, Taylor Swift, also dated Lautner in 2009 while they were filming Valentine's Day.
