The 'Tasty' New Costco Item That Has Fans Riled Up

You’d be surprised, but who would’ve thought a humble wrap could cause such a dust-up on social media? What’s not to love about tender, juicy protein, a delightful, zesty sauce, cheese and crisp veggies all wrapped up in a convenient and easy-to-eat package? It’s the stuff of meal prep dreams, and with a few easy swaps, it can be a great way to eat the rainbow if you’ve made that your resolution for the year.

Sure, depending on your choice of ingredients, you might not consider a carb-heavy wrap to be certifiable rabbit food. For us though, we like to think there’s equal space at the dinner table for a barbecue chicken wrap and a Greek-inspired crispy chickpea wrap with a flaxseed tortilla. The options!

Regardless of our personal philosophy surrounding the only dish more versatile than a sandwich, the internet seems to have quite an opinion on a new offering from Costco that’s got fans riled up to defend their stance one way or the other. The wrap in question was shared by self-proclaimed Costco superfan @costcobuys and can be found in the larger-than-life retailer’s ready-to-eat deli section, which has a spotty history of being hit or miss among consumers shopping for a quick and easy meal. It seems that nothing is safe from the ire of hungry fans, and their latest is no exception to the rule.

So, what’s the wrap causing all the drama? None other than an innocuous (and delicious looking) Chicken Bacon Ranch Wrap that’s got fans hot and cold on the topic. The wrap itself consists of a bright green spinach tortilla generously filled with tender rotisserie chicken, baby spinach, red onions, tomatoes, bacon bits, cheese and a side of ranch dressing for dipping or drizzling as you indulge. Sounds pretty harmless right? Well, according to some fans, maybe not so much.

For starters, a few fans took issue with the price of $6.99 per pound, which works out to about $17 total for a container filled with four decent sized wraps. That being said, as one shopper pointed out, when you do the math, it works to about $4.50 per serving—a  considerably cheaper option than what you would pay at Subway or a specialty sandwich shop. Additionally, a few miffed fans couldn’t get past the idea of the high carb tortilla, urging other shoppers to take note and steer clear.

The discourse wasn’t all bad though, with one very pleased patron summing things up with a simple “Yum.” The lesson in all this is that taste is purely subjective and you might not be everyone’s cup of tea. You’re just a wrap with different ingredients, and that’s okay. You do you, chicken bacon ranch wrap. We’re rooting for you!
