Taco Bell’s Cheesy New Item Has Fans Saying ‘This Ain’t It’

We’re in a very hard to define culinary era and if we’re being fully honest, things are probably about to get weirder. There’s the social media recession meals trend that posits the renewed interest in cheaper, waste-conscious meals that focus on getting the most bang for your buck as evidence of our current socioeconomic moment. There are those who say we’re in the "LOLfood" era, signaled by a return to cuisine that’s less fussy and conceptual in favor of more pared down familiar comforts like pizza rolls or the giant Goldfish cracker available at Danny Garica’s Time and Tide. Others say we’re squarely in the era of Frankenfoods with kooky mashups like Kit Kat Pizza Melts and Beer Can Chicken Pringles. Told ya—it’s weird.

Regardless of what you call this current moment of food innovation (if you can call it that), the truth of the matter is brands are just getting started. There’s no telling what wild, mildly intriguing and OMG-worthy foods we’ll get a taste of next, but we’re strapped in and ready for the ride.

The latest mystery dish dividing the internet is a mashup we never saw coming in our wildest nightmares. And fans are even saying they don’t think this “legally qualifies as food.” We have to agree, but we’ll let you be the judge.

The nausea-inducing delicacy in question comes to us from Taco Bell, and it’s a cheesy update on a classic quesadilla that we definitely didn’t ask for: the Cheetos Quesadilla. That’s right, folks. According to Instagrammer @snackolator, the fan-favorite quick service taco chain is dishing out quesadillas stuffed with crunchy Cheetos and melty cheese. It's very...unique to say the least.

While it’s not the most offensive flavor combo, there’s something about the mix of textures that makes our stomach turn. Beyond that, it feels a little lazy and uninspired compared to the wild and wacky food landscape that exists today.

Judging by the comments, fans shared the same sentiments with most saying, “How nasty! 🤢” Additionally, one fan even inserted the horrifying thought of getting one with stale Cheetos inside and we’ll never be the same.

Fortunately—or unfortunately, depending on how adventurous you are—you’ll only be able to pick one up at Taco Bell’s in the Philippines. Or, you could whip one up yourself at home to try it out for yourself. We’ll pass on this one, but you do you, bestie.
