Sydney Sweeney has revealed that she wants to star alongside Paul Mescal in a rom-com.

Sweeney recently dipped her toe in the genre as she joined Glen Powell in Anyone But You, and revealed in an interview with BuzzFeed that she would be happy to revisit the style in the future.

When asked who she would like to star alongside in future rom-coms, Sweeney said: “Oooh, that’s such a good question. Who would I want? I feel like it would be really fun to work with Paul Mescal.”

Whilst Sweeney picked the Irish star as her top choice, Mescal recently outlined his vision for working alongside Ayo Edebiri, with the star citing her work in Bottoms as a motivation for potential collaboration.

“Comedy scares me deeply because I think I saw Bottoms recently and I was in awe of how they do that,” he told Awards Watch. “That's one of those [where] I leave the cinema and I'm incredibly jealous.

“[I was] brightened by everybody's talents involved with that film. But I think in the next five years I'm going to set myself a challenge to do maybe a rom-com with Ayo – something like that would be cool.”

Whilst Sweeney may have to wait a while to appear alongside Mescal, the star can currently be seen in Madame Web alongside Dakota Johnson and Celeste O’Connor, with the film being set in the Spider-Man universe.

The role is Johnson’s first in the superhero genre, and the star recently spoke exclusively with Digital Spy about her foray into action and shared universes, saying: “I never saw myself doing a superhero movie.

“But I really love the idea of a superhero being a young woman whose power was her mind and her intellect. I find that really powerful. It's more internal, and really trusting my director SJ [Clarkson] to know that we were translating more nuanced performances.”

Madame Web is in cinemas now.
