Sydney pub slammed after it bans 'tradie wear'
A newly-opened Sydney pub has drawn criticism after it all but banned a large portion of its potential clientele with a strict dress code policy.
The Marsden Brewhouse, in Marsden Park in the city’s north-west, copped criticism when a photo of its new dress code was posted online.
Among the list of offending items are Nike Air Maxes, satchels, bum bags, facial tattoos and an apparent universal ban on ‘offensive clothing’.
Those donning hi-vis wear or work boots – the near-universal uniform of tradies – were also not allowed in the venue after 6pm each night.
However, when a photo of the stringent rules began circulating online, the venue’s well-known owner, Arthur Laundy – the father of former Bachelorette winner Stu Laundy – was quick to quash talk of the ban.
“The moment I found out about it was this morning and it was pulled down immediately,” he told 2GB.
“Nobody seems to know who put it up there.”
Yahoo Lifestyle has contacted The Marsden Brewhouse for comment and it is understood the ban has been reversed.
Weeks earlier, the venue hit the headlines after its unwillingness to alter the menu for those with allergies left punters vowing to ‘never eat there’.
In the wake of backlash, the brewhouse took to Facebook to apologise for what they saw as “a poorly written disclaimer on our menu which presented some ambiguity”.
“We are sorry,” the pub’s post said.
