Supermodel Reveals Which 'Real Housewife' Inspired Her to Show Her Mastectomy Scars
Linda Evangelista is opening up about her breast cancer recovery, revealing that she found the courage to show her mastectomy scars in a photo shoot thanks to a reality star.
The supermodel got candid about an interaction she had with The Real Housewives of New York City star Jenna Lyons and her fiancée, photographer Cass Bird, sharing how they made her feel comfortable enough to show her scars publicly.
As People detailed, Evangelista spoke about the topic during Shiseido’s Potential Has No Age Summit earlier this month, where she participated in a panel with Lyons and Shiseido chief marketing officer Agnes Landau.

Evangelista was asked about a time in which she felt most beautiful, and she dove into a story about how, while Bird was photographing her for Zeit Magazine, Bird and Lyons asked about her scars while she was changing.
“I have had a double mastectomy and I had never shown anyone besides my family,” she revealed, before explaining that Lyons’ and Bird’s positive reaction to her vulnerability made her feel beautiful.
“I should have known myself, looking in the mirror. Something I don't love to do, but I should have known that it is beautiful,” Evangelista admitted. “I'm beautiful, but I needed to hear it from someone else. So I just really think it's important that as women, we support each other and uplift each other. I think we're all in this together.”
Evangelista was so inspired by the interaction that she proceeded to model shirtless with just a jean jacket placed over her shoulders, her scars visible around her breasts.

The supermodel was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018 and underwent a bilateral mastectomy. In 2022, the cancer returned, and as she shared with WSJ Magazine the following year, she told her oncologist, “Dig a hole in my chest. I don’t want it to look pretty. I want you to excavate. I want to see a hole in my chest when you’re done. Do you understand me? I’m not dying from this.”
She told the outlet at the time that her prognosis was “good” following the surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation.
