We can't believe it didn't already exist.

At the beginning of the month, we were gifted with release after release from Frito-Lay in honor of one of snacking’s biggest days, Super Bowl Sunday. Now, as Cheetos Flamin’ Hot Dill Pickle and Doritos Golden Sriracha are finally hitting more shelves nationwide, we’re already learning about a new chip flavor joining the Frito-Lay lineup.

You don’t need an occasion or special holiday to enjoy a new snack—but it’s certainly a good excuse. So, as we’re a week away from National Snack Day on March 4, Frito-Lay is celebrating with a new SunChips flavor.

Beginning March 3, you’ll find new SunChips Honey BBQ on retailer shelves nationwide.

You might be having the same reaction we did when we learned about the new chips: How did SunChips not already have a Honey BBQ flavor?

You’re not alone in thinking the brand offered a barbecue-flavored chip before—because it did. SunChips previously sold a Sweet & Spicy BBQ-flavored whole-grain chip that offered a savory barbecue sauce flavor with a kick. However, those were discontinued a few years back.

Now, this is the brand’s first chip with a smoky, savory barbecue and sweet honey flavor. The Honey BBQ SunChips offer a bold blend of rich, tangy barbecue sauce with a hint of sweet honey in the same wavy, crunchy 100% whole grain chip you love from the brand. While the nationwide launch isn’t until early March, many customers have already spotted the Honey BBQ SunChips on retailer shelves—including Target and Kroger.

Those who found them early are already calling the flavor “amazing,” saying “I am gonna crush so many honey barbecue SunChips.”

There are rumblings that the Honey BBQ SunChips are set to replace the Chili Lime flavor, which was released in 2021 as part of the brand’s “Be Your Own Wave” campaign. The red pepper and lime-flavored chips have received mixed reviews, with customers saying “nothing will best” the fan-loved Garden Salsa variety.

While SunChips hasn’t confirmed if it’s discontinuing its Chili Lime flavor or making the Honey BBQ permanent, the Honey BBQ chips are listed on its site as a “new release” rather than a “limited release.” So, you can read into that information however you please.

Permanent or not, we’ll definitely be buying a bag as soon as we see these SunChips on shelves.
