TikTok is convinced this is the moisturizer Roman Roy uses on ‘Succession’

The penultimate episode of HBO’s award-winning Succession centered around one major event: Logan Roy’s funeral. While I could go over every scene that made me want to bury Kieran Culkin in a cozy pile of a hundred Emmys, I won’t. Instead, I’m just going to talk about one: Roman Roy’s skin care. More specifically, his moisturizer.
At the beginning of the episode, we see Roman (Culkin) hyping himself up in his apartment to give his father’s eulogy. As he says, “See Shivvy cry, see Kenny die, see Roman the showman light up the sky.” In the midst of this, he notices that his skin is “A little dry,” so he goes to moisturize it.
Obviously, every beauty enthusiast needed to know exactly what he was putting on his face. Here’s where TikTok comes in clutch by analyzing some key details:
The color of both the actual formula and the jar
Roman’s grip on the jar
The sound the cap made when it was placed on the counter
The slightly translucent material
The lack of text
The way Roman carefully and methodically applied the product to his face
The consensus between influencers and beauty editors? Roman Roy uses La Mer.
You can peep some excellent TikTok breakdowns from Charlotte Palermino (@charlotteparler) and Kirbie Johnson (@kirbiejohnson) for all of the deets. However, the La Mer lock for me is Charlotte’s point that Roman has an “affinity for a certain demographic of women who tend to use La Mer.” IYKYK.
Now, before you say that the moisturizer on Succession is too light and lotion-y to be La Mer, you’re right! That’s because it’s not the original Crème de la Mer Moisturizer formula but the lighter Moisturizing Soft Cream. Clearly, Roman is someone who knows his skin type and knows he doesn’t need something as thick as Crème de la Mer.
La Mer is famous for having a cult-like following and being very, very (very) expensive. The price range for the Moisturizing Soft Cream starts at $100 for 0.5 ounces and goes all the way up to $1,375 for 8.5 ounces. The secret ingredient that makes it stand out from other moisturizers is the famous cell-renewing “Miracle Broth,” which was formulated by German aerospace physicist Max Huber.
Unfortunately (and fortunately), the majority of us don’t have Roy family money. Still, it’s important for our skin to be impeccably moisturized like we do have Roy family money. Although true skin care dupes don’t exist, we did round up a handful of affordable alternatives to La Mer, as well as other moisturizers we could see Roman using to hype himself up before, uh, delivering his dead father’s eulogy.
