Solis offers a line of furnishings made in Italy, France and Los Angeles. The first drop — the “Heritage Collection” — has 11 designs: sofas, tables and chairs. Pieces include the Ghost sofa, available in Belgian stonewashed linen or Italian milled cotton velvet, built from kiln-dried solid alder wood frames with hand-stitched upholstery; the Reign chair, influenced by Swedish Art Deco, hand-stitched in L.A., and the Story Table, round, on three legs, built from solid white oak with a cerused finish. Everything is crafted from natural materials and made to last.
“I think my 10-year-old self being the only girl in woodshop trying to build a chair, it was always part of the dream,” she said of a career in interior design.
She’s coming full circle; she studied interior design in college, but fell into fashion styling first. “It was definitely my passion,” she said of designing. “I just didn’t know how to get there.”
She got there naturally in the end, after receiving attention online for the design work she had done in her own homes and began to grow a clientele. It was in 2017 that she launched her interior design studio. Releasing a home brand was always in the cards, she said.
“I keep a notebook, an actual physical notebook, and I keep my sketches and photos in it,” she continued. “I’ve been working off that for many, many years, since before I started the design studio, before I started the collection. There was already a seed there.”
Solis also presents a curated selection of antique furniture, rugs and tapestries she’s been collecting for years, as well as Galerie Solis fabrics, Italian milled mohair, Italian milled cotton velvet and Belgian stonewashed linen. The entire collection is available on galeriesolis.com and design platform The Future Perfect in L.A.
“There’s a consistent patina that I’m attracted to, because the pieces all have a beautiful story and texture that evoke emotion,” Solis said of the designs. “And that is my hope with the collection that I’ve designed, that they will continue to live a life much like the antique pieces.”
