Sterling K. Brown Jokes He Used to Have Women Ask If He Could ‘Bite’ Them After ‘Supernatural’ (Exclusive)

Sterling K. Brown is reflecting on some of the most memorable moments of his career—including the unexpected response he got from fans after portraying vampire hunter-turned-vampire Gordon Walker on Supernatural.

"When people know you from Supernatural, they're like, 'Yeah, you my dude!'" Brown, 48, exclusively told Parade for the Feb. 16 cover story, online now. "I had a blast. Jensen [Ackles] and Jared [Padalecki] are two of my favorite people on this planet. Incredibly kind. Warm. They make you welcome on that set because it's hard [shooting] nights … But it was so much fun."

Brown continued, "And I'm telling [you], the rabid following of the Supernatural fans — I did one convention. I'd had several women ask me to bite them. You know what I'm saying? You get weird, weird stuff that happens, but weird born out of a complete and total adoration for the product that they put out into the world. So it was dope. And I think if I had not wound up booking Army Wives as a series regular, I probably would have recurred on that show for a little bit longer."

Brown guest-starred on the long-running drama/horror series for four episodes during Season 2 and Season 3. Supernatural, which first premiered in 2005, ran for a total of 15 seasons until its series finale aired on The CW in November 2020.

After his stints on Supernatural and Army Wives, Brown went on to star in numerous career-defining roles, including Randall Pearson on This Is Us and Christopher Darden on The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story, both of which earned him Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie, respectively.

He currently stars as Xavier Collins in the new drama Paradise, which premiered in January.

"It's interesting because somebody asked me the other day, like a friend of mine, 'Did you think you were going to be where you are now when you first got out of school, when you first thought about being an actor?'" he recalled to Parade while looking back at his illustrious career. "I don't think I thought about anything other than wanting to pay the bills by acting. The first 15 years or so of my career, I was blessed to do exactly that: pay the bills, just doing this acting thing. And then the O.J. [project] came along, and then the trajectory of it shifted in a very delightful and surprising way."

He added, "To be able to have some sort of choice in the projects that you want to be a part of, to have people want to be in business with you … It is an incredible privilege."
