Starbucks Is Finally Getting Rid of Controversial Drinks
Starbucks is axing the controversial line of Oleato coffee items from its menu just a year after the products debuted.
As a new CEO steps in and takes the reins of the company, olive oil-infused beverages will be no more as of Nov. 7, 2024, according to intel Bloomberg News received regarding the upcoming changes.

In an update published Tuesday, Oct. 29, the business publication noted that Oleato products—including the Oleato Caffè Latte, Oleato Golden Foam Cold Brew, Oleato Iced Shaken Espresso and others—will be permanently removed from the core menu when the coffee chain's holiday drinks launch, as incoming CEO Brian Niccol aims to streamline service.
The move is reportedly aligned with the executive's desire to accelerate growth by eliminating the "overly complicated" menu in an attempt to allow baristas to prepare drinks faster.
As a result, they are “saying goodbye to Starbucks Oleato beverages and toffee nut syrup,” per the memo.
Bloomberg also noted that the decision was made before Niccol's position change, which officially took place on Sept. 9, making it clear that it was not his sole choice.

Starbucks' Oleato coffees first became available in Italy in February 2023 before a nationwide rollout in the U.S. in January 2024. But even in the beginning, fans were unsure of their feelings toward the menu options.
Earlier this year, several people who tried the drinks took to social media complaining of strange physical effects after consumption, many of whom dealt with troubling stomach issues.
"Caffeine is a stimulant for your bowels and oil a relaxant. So yeah wonderful idea by Starbucks," one Reddit user sarcastically pointed out.
Meanwhile, someone else said, "so far my stomach is gurgling and my throat is burning," after having one of the beverages.
All things considered, it seems that the removal of the offering may be in the best interest of both the company and its beloved customers after all.
