Sprite’s Fan-Favorite Regional Flavor to Go Nationwide

From Coca-Cola Orange Cream to Dr Pepper Creamy Coconut, there are plenty of interesting new twists on classic varieties of soda available at the moment. Now, a beloved but uncommon version of Sprite is about to get a whole lot easier to find—and fans couldn't be more excited.

According to popular soda blogger SodaSeekers, while the “rare” Sprite Cherry flavor has been available in certain regions for years, the bubbly beverage will be hitting stores nationwide starting this August.

As SodaSeekers revealed in an Instagram post on Monday, Jan. 27, Sprite Cherry combines cherry with the soda's traditional lemon-lime flavor and will come in both 20-ounce bottles and cans. Unfortunately, there are "no known plans" for a Zero Sugar option at this time.

Parade reached out to the Coca-Cola Company for comment.

A product description on Sprite's website described the flavor as "ice-cold refreshment with just the right amount of cherry," noting, "you were already drinking it with Coca‑Cola Freestyle, so we bottled it."

(Sprite Cherry is one of multiple flavors already available at Coca-Cola Freestyle touchscreen soda fountains, in addition to Sprite Grape, Sprite Peach, Sprite Strawberry, Sprite Lymonade, Sprite Vanilla, and Sprite Pineapple.)

Fans were thrilled by the news.

"Omg everybody it’s happening," wrote one person, with another adding, "Sprite cherry is my favorite!! So happy it's getting proper recognition!"

"I’ve only seen Cherry Sprite in a couple gas stations, but it would be great to have it in 12 pack cans at Walmart too!" another Instagram user noted, while somebody else compared the flavor to a traditional mocktail, asking, "So, a Shirley Temple?"

Yet another person wondered if Sprite Cherry would be "much different" than Sprite Chill, a cherry-lime flavor (which is available in Zero Sugar).

The Sprite Cherry announcement came just days after it was revealed (also by SodaSeekers) that Sprite Tropical Mix will be getting a nationwide release soon, too.

According to Sprite’s website, the Tropical Mix features a “combination of the crisp, familiar Sprite lemon-lime taste with delicious strawberry and pineapple flavors.”
