Sotheby’s to Auction Mary Tyler Moore’s Jewelry Collection in December
Sotheby’s has announced it will auction jewelry from Mary Tyler Moore’s collection as part of its Magnificent Jewels and Fine Jewels auctions in New York City this December. Proceeds from the 21 pieces will benefit the Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative, a nonprofit organization that seeks to preserve and restore vision in people with diabetes.
Highlights from the collection will travel to Los Angeles from Nov. 14 to 16, before returning to New York for public exhibition beginning Dec. 1 alongside Luxury Week — which showcases the best in each of Sotheby’s luxury categories. The Magnificent Jewels auction will take place on Dec. 5, and the Fine Jewels auction will be open for bidding from Nov. 28 to Dec. 7.

“Mary Tyler Moore was a true American classic, and this is reflected in every piece from her beautiful collection of jewels,” said Frank Everett, vice chairman of Sotheby’s jewelry, in a statement. “Detailed, delicate and refined, Mary’s jewels not only highlight her understated elegance, but also reveal a passionate collector who delighted in beautifully crafted objects.”
Tyler Moore’s extensive collection of included a wide gold band with an emerald-cut diamond ring weighing 5.14 carats, a Van Cleef & Arpels gold cuff bracelet and pair of earclips, a gold, ruby and diamond necklace from Bulgari, a pair of sterling silver bone cuffs by Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Co., a cultured pearl and diamond brooch, a gold and diamond Audemars Piguet watch and a wristwatch by Jaeger-LeCoultre.
Tyler Moore had a storied career in television. She rose to prominence in the ’60s for playing Laura Petrie on “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” a role for which she won three Emmy Awards during the series’ five-season run. She would go on to star as Mary Richards in “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” a role considered groundbreaking for her portrayal of a single working woman making it on her own.
