Song Yoo-jung, South Korean TV star, dies aged 26

South Korean actress Song Yoo-jung has died at the aged of 26, her agency has confirmed.

The star, who passed on January 23, was farewelled with a small funeral, with her agency paying tribute to her “bright smile” and “passion”.

“Actress Song Yoo-jung has left us,” Sublime Artist Agency wrote in an Instagram post.

“Yoo-jung was a friend who always gave us happiness with a bright smile, and an awesome actress who acted with a passion bigger than anyone.”

Song first stepped into the spotlight in 2013, debuting as a model for Estée Lauder.

In the same year she starred in the TV drama Golden Rainbow, and had supporting roles in two more shows in 2014 and 2017.

She nabbed the lead role in romantic fantasy drama Dear My Name in 2019, which was her last role.

Song is the latest in a number of recent deaths of South Korean celebrities.

Last year K-Pop star Yohan died suddenly at the age of 28, while in October 2019 another K-Pop pop star and actress Sulli was found dead aged 25, shortly after leaving a note that hinted she had been suffering from depression.

In November 2019, 28-year-old K-Pop star Goo Hara was also found dead in her home, and in December that year K-Pop star Cha In Ha was found dead at the age of 27.
