Simone Biles Says She Narrowly Avoided Embarrassing Accident During Her Very Adventurous Honeymoon

After tying the knot almost two years ago, Simone Biles and her husband, Jonathan Owens, finally went on a honeymoon to South Africa—where the Olympic gymnast had a surprisingly close encounter with a wild animal.

On Monday, Feb. 17, Biles shared a series of pics and videos on Instagram from the couple's guided tour through a wildlife reserve, leading with a clip of a male lion stalking past their vehicle at night.

“Not gonna lie I almost s--t” myself,” Biles wrote in the caption.

The remaining images featured more wildlife sightings, including a leopard sleeping in a tree, a hyena, giraffes and a mother rhino and her baby. Biles also included pics of herself and Owens on the safari, as well as shots of their luxury accommodations.

The Olympic gold medalist and Owens, a Chicago Bears player, met in 2020, eventually getting engaged in 2022 and finally tying the knot in April 2023.

During an August 2024 appearance on Today, Biles opened up about the couple's possible plans for starting a family, revealing that she "most definitely" sees herself as a mom, and that she and Owens "always" talk about having kids.

However, as Biles explained, she and Owens aren't quite ready yet.

"We both have goals we’d like to achieve before starting a family," she said, although her husband “would have had [kids] yesterday if he could have.”

As for whether or not Biles will compete in the next Olympics, she declined to give a definitive answer during a September 2024 appearance on The Tonight Show—but seemed to hint that it wasn't likely.

"So here's the thing," the 27-year-old explained, "Like in real-life and in gymnastics, I age like fine wine. Okay, but for a gymnast [I'm] old."
