The shocking reason why Ariel is the highest-paid ‘Fantasmic’ character at Disney World: ‘I’d be asking for a big raise’

A Disney aficionado claims to know the reason why Ariel from The Little Mermaid gets paid more than any other cast member in the “Fantasmic” show at Disney World — and the fiery footage is going viral.

Taryn Bench — who calls herself a “Disney weirdo” in her TikTok bio — garnered over 8.3 million views, 1.1 million likes and 3,300 comments when she shared the shocking Disney revelation to her account.

While we’ve seen Disney Princess exposés go viral in the past — like the party princesses who are sick of parents’ complete lack of boundaries while they’re in costume — Taryn’s video proves just how dangerous being a princess can be.

While some Disney World visitors take to TikTok to reveal money-saving hacks — like the family that always eats for free at water and amusement parks thanks to their clever shoebox trick — Taryn made viral waves when she revealed why Ariel receives hazard pay during the “Fantasmic” show.

According to Taryn’s video, Ariel is the only cast member who cannot leave the steamboat to hide from the fireworks.

Insidethemagic.net reports that because Ariel has no legs, for her safety, she must be tethered to the boat — meaning she cannot be lifted or rolled away.

Before ducking for cover, Prince Eric throws a flame-resistant blanket over the princess’s head (after she’s tucked away her long red locks, of course). Ariel then turns away from the fireworks and hunkers down as the steamboat makes its way down the channel.

“Hazard pay 🤑🤑🤑” Taryn writes in her video. “Stay safe Ariel!”

‘how have they not found a better solution yet??!?!’

TikTokers were shocked by this Disney World revelation.

“what the hell how have they not found a better solution yet??!?!” asked @jazzymaryha.

“I used to work at fantasmic. We liked to call it bagging the fish 😂” laughed @zombabe0_o.

“Did she see what happened with the dragon? I’d be asking for a big raise😂” wrote @alison_anne_, referencing an April 22 “Fantasmic” performance during which the Maleficent dragon spontaneously caught on fire, forcing the park to immediately halt the show and call in the fire department.

According to the Disney World website, “Fantasmic” features “stunning effects, thrilling stunts, dazzling pyrotechnics and rousing music” — and is “overflowing with silly and suspenseful surprises” that will “leave your entire family smiling from ear-to-ear!”

Apparently, the show also features charred mermaids and grilled dragons — definitely a suspenseful surprise!
