Sheryl Crow Divides Fans With Bold Political Statement About ‘the Truth’
Sheryl Crow’s fans appeared to be divided after the singer shared a political message on social media this week.
The nine-time Grammy Award winner posted her statement alongside a video on Instagram on Friday, Feb. 14. In the video, the “If It Makes You Happy” singer revealed that she decided to break up with her Tesla vehicle on Valentine’s Day.
In the video, the 63-year-old singer stood on a tree-lined street as a Tesla was perched on a tow truck a few feet in front of her. As the tow truck began to cart the vehicle away, Crow smiled and waved. She followed its progression briefly as she took a few steps forward before turning back around to face the camera. Meanwhile, the tow truck continued on its way.
“My parents always said… you are who you hang out with,” she wrote to caption her post. “There comes a time when you have to decide who you are willing to align with.” That advice appeared to have brought Crow to a decision. “So long Tesla,” she wrote.
“The First Cut Is the Deepest” singer went on to call out Tesla CEO Elon Musk as she explained that she had decided to donate money to NPR, “which is under threat by President Musk, in hopes that the truth will continue to find its way to those willing to know the truth.”
Crow posted her message amid growing concerns about federal funding for public broadcasters like NPR under President Donald Trump’s new administration. Musk, a supporter of Trump’s, called for NPR specifically to be defunded in a post on X, formerly Twitter, earlier this month. “It should survive on its own,” he tweeted.
Many of Crow’s Instagram followers praised her words in the post’s comment section, with one writing, “YOU ARE EVERYTHING!!!! Thank you queen!!!” as another commented, “Just when I thought I couldn’t love you more!!!!” and a third dubbed the “Soak Up the Sun” singer “Sheryl Queen.”
“I’ve always been a fan of yours- but now I’m a super fan! That’s awesome! Good on you for practicing what you preach!” one Instagram user wrote.
Others criticized the move, which one called “another liberal meltdown.”
“How can people be against Trump and Musk?” one Instagram user wondered. “If you are against them, than [sic] you are against freedom of speech, government efficiency, homeland security and America first politics. It is sad that it seems that you are against all these dear Sheryl Crow. 😔.”
“Extremely disappointed in your stance,” another Instagram user wrote.
