Serena Williams Is Unbothered By The Backlash Following Her Viral Super Bowl Moment

Serena Williams is apparently unfazed by the backlash over her viral appearance during Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show earlier this month.

“Gosh I’m so late to the game (I’ve been sick) & busy investing in billion dollar companies and running @WYNbeauty … def not dancing to be petty lol,” Williams, 43, wrote via X, formerly Twitter, on Monday.

The tennis star added, “I think I proved 23 times over (not counting 4 gold medals) that I simply don’t have time for petty. All love and respect always nothing negative here.”

Williams’ X post seemingly referenced claims from social media users and TV personalities like Stephen A. Smith that her appearance at the Feb. 9 show took aim at her rumored ex-boyfriend Drake, who has been embroiled in an ongoing rap beef with Lamar.

During the Super Bowl LIX halftime show, Williams took the stage at the Caesar’s Superdome in New Orleans during Lamar’s Drake diss track “Not Like Us.” Williams, who reportedly dated Drake, donned a blue tennis skirt set as she did a crip walk dance.

Williams was heavily criticized for doing the same infamous dance during her 2012 London Olympics win at Wimbledon.

The Grand Slam champion’s response on X comes after her husband, Alexis Ohanian, with whom she shares daughters Olympia and Adira, defended her Super Bowl performance earlier this month on social media.

“Some of y’all have no idea how criticized Serena was for this same dance at Wimbledon 13 years ago and it shows,” Ohanian wrote on Feb. 10. “This is bigger than the music.”
