Selena Gomez Swears By This Life-Changing Advice From A Fellow Actor

Selena Gomez is passing along life advice she once received from another actor that she swears works wonders.

“I know this sounds silly, but someone once said, ‘Don’t take yourself too seriously,’” the singer, 32, told People at an event hosted by Elle magazine in Los Angeles on Tuesday. “Because it allows you to have room and empathy and compassion, and you can go into a film or a character and be able to really appreciate that.”

“That was from an actress that I really respect,” the “Only Murders in the Building” star, 32, went on. “I know it sounds weird, but it actually does work when you get to enjoy it and not be in your head so much.”

Gomez didn’t say who’d given her those words of wisdom. But in September, the “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place” star opened up about the advice she would’ve given her younger self, if she could turn back the hands of time.

While hosting a virtual event with Instagram for her makeup brand Rare Beauty, Gomez said she’d been “very hard on myself,” People reports.

“If the teacher scolded me for talking too much, I’d go home and think about it all day. If I had a crush on a boy and he asked a girl out in front of me, I’d be a wreck forever.”

She added, “I didn’t think I was enough or sometimes I didn’t think I fit in and ultimately you’re exactly who you are made to be.”
