Selena Gomez Suits Up in a Tailored Bridal Look by Ralph Lauren and Zoe Saldaña Embraces the Sheer Trend in Victoria Beckham at PSIFF
“Emilia Perez” stars Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña embraced some of fall’s biggest trends at the Palm Springs International Film Awards Friday night. The two actresses, whose Netflix film received the Vanguard Award, took two different approaches to red carpet fashion.
Selena Gomez suited up in a tailored look, which has been populating the red carpet this past year with Pamela Anderson, Tilda Swinton and Stephanie Hsu putting their takes on it throughout 2024. Styled by her longtime collaborator Erin Walsh, Gomez wore a custom three-piece suit by Ralph Lauren that nodded to bridal apparel with its white satin sheen. The actress paired her suit with a matching tie and a sheer button-down that she revealed more fully after shedding her jacket on the red carpet.

Gomez, who is currently engaged to producer and music artist Benny Blanco, finished her matrimonial look with her marquis diamond engagement ring, which is estimated to have cost around $200,000, according to the diamond experts from United Kingdom retailer Steven Stone.
Saldaña also embraced the sheer trend. While Gomez wore a pop of it beneath her suit, Saldaña wore a flowing asymmetric sheer Victoria Beckham gown from the designer’s spring 2025 collection. The actress dialed up the opacity on the sequin-hemmed dress, toning down the sheerness of its original form on the runway. Saldaña paired the burgundy gown, in this fall’s breakout color, with a matching manicure and fine jewels by Bucherer, including firework earrings and a firework cocktail ring.
Burgundy, or merlot, mahogany, bordeaux, has been one of the dominant red carpet trends from this fall. Not only has it been trending at film events like Deadline’s 2024 Contenders Film: Los Angeles, with Lupita Nyong’o, Ryan Destiny and Mikey Madison all embracing the color, it’s been favored off the red carpet by royals and politicians. In December, Vice President Kamala Harris opted to wear a power suit in burgundy with a modern spin. Last month Princess Charlene embraced the trend with a burgundy manicure and Kate Middleton wore the trending color head to toe.
On Sunday, burgundy is poised to emerge as a red carpet trend at the Golden Globes, where Gomez and Saldana are both up for awards for their performances in “Emilia Perez.” The 82nd installment of the show airs Sunday night at 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET on CBS and will be streamed on Paramount+ with Showtime in the U.S. WWD’s livestream of the red carpet at the Golden Globes, hosted by Ashley Graham, begins at 6:30 p.m. ET on wwd.com/golden-globes, X, YouTube, LinkedIn and on Amazon Live, and the Amazon Live channel available on Prime Video and FireTV.
The Palm Springs Film Festival also brought out Ariana Grande, Angelina Jolie, Andrew Garfield, Nicole Kidman, Demi Moore, Jamie Lee Curtis and more stars.
