Selena Gomez Jokes About Being 'Too Old For The Pop Star Life'
Entertainer Selena Gomez doesn’t see music as her main focus as she moves forward in her career.
The 32-year-old smiled as she seemingly joked that she’s “too old for the pop star life” in a Wednesday installment of Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series, which also featured “Lady Bird” star Saoirse Ronan.
In their conversation, Ronan praised Gomez for a solo she sings in the critically acclaimed musical thriller “Emilia Pérez.” This prompted the former Disney Channel star to say that she doesn’t see music as “a forever thing” in her career.
“I definitely think my strong suit is probably acting,” said Gomez, whose last studio album was released back in 2020.
While the two-time Grammy nominee noted that she’s “proud” of the stories she’s able to tell through song, she said: “I think I might be a little too old for the pop star life anymore. But I’m genuinely so happy to just be in this new era of my life ... because in a lot of ways, it’s just the beginning for me.”
Still, Gomez said she would “always have music” in her life because of her romantic relationship with producer Benny Blanco.
“I love ... having moments to just do it for fun,” she went on. “It can be a little vulnerable when you’re putting yourself out there, versus escaping into a character.”
Gomez’s character work has been earning her major recognition lately, with the star snagging multiple Golden Globe nods on Monday.
She’ll now compete in the category of Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy for her role on Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building,” and in the category of Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture for “Emilia Pérez.”
