See the first footage of Disney's new CGI Stitch from upcoming remake

See how the chaotic blue alien looks in the new "Lilo & Stitch," hitting theaters next year.

Many of Disney's recent classic movie remakes have focused on the difference between animation and live-action. But when it comes to Lilo & Stitch, one of the titular characters is an animalistic alien who would basically be impossible to represent in 3D. What's more, he doesn't talk in the same way as an almost-human character like the Beast from Beauty and the Beast or the Genie from Aladdin. In order to remake Lilo & Stitch, Disney had to find a way to make Stitch look more "realistic" while still depicting him entirely through special effects. Now, we can see the results.

Disney first unveiled their new CGI design for Stitch at their D23 convention back in August, but Stitch's personality is all in his chaotic movements and incomprehensible alien sounds. Now, fans can finally see those characteristics at work in Disney's first teaser for their upcoming Lilo & Stitch remake.

The original promotional campaign for Lilo & Stitch inserted the little blue alien into classic Disney scenes, which he then disrupted in chaotic ways. This new teaser is in that same vein, starting with a close-up of a sand replica of the iconic Disney castle before Stitch comes in and destroys it.

This new Lilo & Stitch will be directed by Dean Fleischer Camp (Marcel the Shell With Shoes On). Maia Kealoha will now play Lilo, the young Hawaiian girl who befriends Stitch after his spaceship crashes on the islands, while Sydney Elizabeth Agudong plays her older sister and guardian Nani. Stitch will still be voiced by Chris Sanders, who was also the co-director of the original Lilo & Stitch (and recently made another animated movie, The Wild Robot).
