See exclusive first look at new “Quiet on Set ”episode, with another Nickelodeon star coming forward
Episode 5 of the Investigation Documentary series, titled "Breaking the Silence," will premiere on April 7.
Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV will soon be back with a new episode delving deeper into troubling claims about Nickelodeon in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and Entertainment Weekly has your first look, including another former child star joining the conversation.
The bombshell documentary series premiered earlier this month in four parts and included interviews with several of the network's stars as they detailed the toxic work environment and abuse they allegedly faced while working with producer Dan Schneider on hit shows like All That and The Amanda Show.
EW can exclusively reveal the first look at an additional fifth episode, titled "Breaking the Silence," set to air Sunday, April 7 at 8 p.m. on Investigation Discovery.
The upcoming installment will feature new interviews with Drake & Josh star Drake Bell, All That’s Giovonnie Samuels and Bryan Christopher Hearne, and Hearne’s mother Tracey Brown, all of whom appeared in the original run of the docuseries. Plus, another former All That cast member, Shane Lyons, will appear in Quiet on Set for the first time.
Broadcast journalist Soledad O’Brien will lead a group conversation wherein the reunited cast will respond to the first four episodes and discuss how the entertainment industry can become safer for young actors.
In the previous episodes of Quiet on Set, Samuels and Hearne detailed the racism they allegedly faced while working on All That and other uncomfortable moments on set, including Hearne describing an experience in which he was fully covered in peanut butter and licked by dogs for an on-air dare.
"I feel very honored to have been given the opportunity to share my story. It’s definitely hard as a Black man in Hollywood, let alone a Black child," Hearne posted on social media after the first episodes came out. "There’s no due date to healing. If you’re wondering ‘Why now?’ It’s because it’s time for justice. It’s time for all this stuff to be revealed and released for so many of us.”
In the third and fourth episodes of the docuseries, Bell discussed the childhood sexual abuse he survived from Amanda Show dialogue coach Brian Peck, who ultimately served time in prison following Bell’s John Doe case against him.
Other major allegations from Quiet on Set's first four episodes include accusations of sexism in the Amanda Show writers room, descriptions of Schneider’s allegedly volatile temperament on set, and details of how child stardom at Nickelodeon negatively impacted young performers’ mental health and self-image.
Since its release, numerous former Nickelodeon stars have spoken out about the stories shared in Quiet on Set, including Kenan and Kel star Kenan Thompson, Bell's Drake and Josh costar Josh Peck, Clarissa Explains It All actress Melissa Joan Hart, and even Blue's Clues host Steve Burns.
Schneider also posted a response video addressing some of the allegations made against him in the documentary's first four episodes. "Watching over the past two nights was very difficult," the former showrunner, who parted ways with the network in 2018, said in a 19-minute conversation with iCarly’s BooG!e. "Me facing my past behaviors — some of which are embarrassing and that I regret and I definitely owe some people a pretty strong apology."
The docuseries was watched by more than 16 million viewers across ID and Max/discovery+ and has the largest audience of an unscripted series since the launch of Max, according to a network release.
The fifth episode of Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV premieres on ID on Sunday, April 7 at 8 p.m. The first four episodes of the series are streaming on Max.
