Sam Dastyari revealed as newest I'm A Celeb contestant

Former Labour politician Sam Dastyari is the latest star confirmed for the new series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here.

The disgraced politician, who resigned from Labor’s frontbench amidst an expenses scandal in 2016, says he’s hoping he can make his family proud during his time in South Africa.

“In a period of time my daughter, Hannah, will be old enough to read the internet and read all the bad decisions I’ve made in the past, but I hope she will see the other things out there and if that means eating a spider or lying in a snake pit then so be it,” he told The Sydney Morning Herald.

“I see this opportunity as a way with dealing with things – and nothing can be worse than what’s going on inside my head.”

Sam famously resigned over his foreign expenses scandal in which he allowed Chinese donors to pay bills for travel expenses on his behalf.

He continued to serve as NSW senator before eventually quitting parliament.

“I’ve have had to accept that the downfall of my career was entirely my own doing,” he added. “There is no resurrection, no rebranding, no comeback, second or third act from all of this. I am not looking for a return to politics.”

The news comes after claims that Hollywood star Pamela Anderson is in negotiations to star on the show, which starts on Sunday.

While former Biggest Loser host Ajay Rochester is also reportedly heading in the jungle.
