Ryan Reynolds Hints At Sour Mood Amid Blake Lively Scandal
Ryan Reynolds hasn’t spoken out about the sexual harassment allegation his wife Blake Lively made against her It Ends With Us costar and director Justin Baldoni, but he did hint that the situation was tanking his mood in a social media post from Monday.
While thanking his collaborators for their work on a fundraising video for the Sickkids Foundation, in which he donned his Deadpool suit, Reynolds admitted that the video, which was originally posted to the foundation’s Instagram page a week ago, was filmed “during a time I really didn’t feel like putting the suit on.”
Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni on Friday, accusing him of sexually harassing her and then using a PR team to tarnish her reputation during and following their work together on the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s It Ends With Us.
The suit alleges that during the film’s production, Baldoni’s behavior was so egregious that an all-hands meeting was held to confront him and establish clear boundaries. Reynolds also attended the meeting, according to the lawsuit.
Over the summer as Lively and Baldoni promoted the film, social media chatter turned against Lively, generated by criticisms over the way she answered interview questions, as well as a resurfaced interview in which she was interpreted as being rude to the interviewer. The bubbling discourse fueled the narrative that Lively—and perhaps even Reynolds—had been the ones who made the production difficult for Baldoni.
Reynolds generated further negative press for the couple last week with his comment in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that Lively grew up “very working class,” despite both her parents’ seasoned Hollywood careers. Social media users called the comment “out of touch.”
Despite not addressing any of the controversies, Reynolds was willing to admit this week that his mood was lacking when he filmed his fundraising effort for SickKids. He didn’t go into detail about what had brought down his spirits—but there are any number of public instances to speculate on.
Days after Reynolds’ press gaffe last week, Lively filed the damning lawsuit against Baldoni, which included text message correspondence between Baldoni and his PR team that exposed their glee at the downfall of Lively’s public persona during the press tour. The suit also alleges that Lively’s experience on the film “traumatized” her and Reynolds’ three small children.
Since the suit was made public over the weekend, Baldoni has been dropped by his agency, his podcast cohost, and been stripped of his Vital Voices Award for advocating for women.
