“She puts steel in my spine,” he told reporters after winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March 2025. “She’s tough on me when she needs to be and just super supportive ... I just feel so loved by her.”
The longtime couple met in 2013 at a wedding between Teil’s sister and one of Russell’s childhood best friends, according to Charleston Weddings. They started dating soon after and tied the knot themselves on Oct. 30, 2015.
The Henleys are now parents to three children. Russell and Teil welcomed their first child, Robert Russell Henley, in April 2018 and their second, Ruth Teil Henley, in June 2019. Teil gave birth to their youngest kid, Jane Edith Henley, in June 2022.

“My grandmother suggested I create a collection of paintings, and she would host a showing in her home,” the artist told Synovus in 2023. The show was a success and after college, Teil opened her first studio and “painted all day, every day” until she found her voice.
She has worked as a contemporary artist for over a decade. In addition to her paintings — which have earned the approval of celebrity fans like Mindy Kaling — she’s also published two books, collaborated with brands like Anthropologie and Abercrombie & Fitch and launched a textile and wallpaper collection.

Four months after the nuptials, the newlyweds arranged for Teil and Russell to go on a first date, and the rest is history.
“He’s had me laughing from day one, so we’ve never struggled to have fun in mundane situations,” the mom of three told Charleston Weddings in 2015. “And, most importantly, we share the same faith, which brings purpose, fulfillment, and joy to our relationship.”

She said yes, and on Oct. 30, 2015, they said their “I dos” in front of family and friends in Charleston, S.C., where Teil had opened her first studio.
In 2019, the family relocated back to Teil’s hometown of Columbus, Ga. There, the couple learned to balance both of their career ambitions, which included a lot of traveling for Russell’s tournaments. “I don’t think I could do my job if Teil wasn’t up for traveling,” he told Synovus in 2025. “She’s really the glue that holds it all together.”

Robert Russell Henley was born on April 3, 2018, followed by Ruth Teil Henley on June 14, 2019. The couple welcomed their youngest, Jane Edith Henley, on June 4, 2022.
Since becoming a mom, Teil said that she’s been able to tap into her creativity even more. “I actually started exploding with more ideas,” she told Synovus in 2023. “I honestly don’t know how, maybe it was hormones? Motherhood just taps into so many new parts of your brain, so maybe it opened up new, creative pathways for me.”
Teil and the kids often accompany Russell to his tournaments and occasionally offer their services as his caddies. Having his family on the road is something the pro golfer said he’ll keep up with as long as they can.
“I would rather go through any inconvenience to just have them all together, because there will come a day where we can't travel anymore,” he told Synovus. “So, we have to take advantage of these days.”

Throughout their relationship, he’s used that quiet confidence she exudes as inspiration for his game.
“Teil has a strong belief system in what she’s capable of doing and how she knows what works,” the pro golfer told Links Players in 2019. “She doesn’t let little things change her opinion of that and she doesn’t let her belief in what she knows she can do fluctuate.”
He continued, “I’m not going to wake up tomorrow and be as flexible as Dustin Johnson and fly my driver 320 yards ... but I have a specific way I play the game, and I’m not going to change the way I do things. Watching Teil, her ideas change for the different things she paints, but she knows and believes what’s best for her painting and that’s what makes her great at it.”
