It’s a drag queen’s world, and Katy Perry’s lucky to be guest-judging in it.
The artist formerly known as Katheryn Hudson has secured a seat at the judges’ table for the Season 17 premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race (Jan. 3, 8/7c), as revealed in MTV’s just-released trailer below.

Along with Perry, the lineup of Season 17 celebrity guest judges includes rapper Doechii, Sandra Bernhard (Pose), Julia Schlaepfer (1923), Paul W. Downs (Hacks), Hunter Schafer (Euphoria), Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), choreographer Jamal Sims, stylist Law Roach, singer Adam Lambert, designer Betsey Johnson, Whitney Cummings (Fast Friends), singer Sam Smith, Jerrod Carmichael (The Carmichael Show), June Diane Raphael (Grace and Frankie), and Tracee Ellis Ross (black-ish).

Now that we have your attention, we need to discuss a new twist being introduced in Season 17 — the Badonka Dunk Tank. Yes, you read that correctly. Here’s how it works: After each lip sync, the eliminated queen will choose one of 10 levers to pull. Two of those levers will drop Michelle Visage into the tank, thus saving the queen. The other eight levers do nothing.
If it helps you think about it another way, the Badonka Dunk Tank is basically a redressing of the chocolate bar twist from Season 14 — and we have no doubt that it will elicit similar whispers of “rigga morris” from viewers.
RuPaul once again returns to host Season 17, joined by Visage, Carson Kressley, Ross Mathews and Ts Madison as mainstay judges. This season’s queens include Acacia Forgot, Arrietty, Crystal Envy, Hormona Lisa, Jewels Sparkles, Joella, Kori King, Lana Ja’Rae, Lexi Love, Lucky Starzzz, Lydia B Kollins, Onya Nurve, Sam Star and Suzie Toot.
