Hale was one of the original cast members of the daytime soap Ryan’s Hope when it debuted on ABC in 1975, playing the role of Roger Coleridge. Hale remained on the show for its entire 14-year run, earning a pair of Daytime Emmy nominations for best supporting actor in a drama series in 1979 and 1980.
Hale then originated the role of Mike Corbin, the long-lost father of mob boss Sonny Corinthos, on General Hospital in 1995. Hale recurred on the ABC soap, appearing in more than 200 episodes, and also reprised the role on spinoff Port Charles before retiring from acting in 2010.
Days of Our Lives actor Billy Warlock offered a tribute to Hale on social media: “It’s with a heavy heart that we’ve lost another great one. My dear friend Ron Hale has passed away. Ron was an amazing talent and an even better friend. I will miss you.”
