Rihanna and A$AP Rocky Are Mom and Dad Goals

A$AP Rocky and Rihanna

Rihanna fans have been waiting a long time for her ninth album, but she’s been busy raising her young family.

The music superstar became a mom in 2022 with the arrival of her and A$AP Rocky’s first baby, son RZA. Less than one year later, they became a family of four when they welcomed another son named Riot.

“[Children] come into the world with their own individuality and sincerity, without any logic or conformity, which usually makes you feel that you must fit into a certain group,” she said during a March 2024 interview with Vogue China. “It’s really beautiful to see and I want to continue to help them navigate that and make sure that they know they can be whoever they want to be. They should embrace it completely, because it’s beautiful, and it’s unique. I love them just that way.”

While the singer has had her hands full with two babies, the Rihanna Navy can take comfort in knowing that she hasn’t completely put her recording career aside. “It’s gonna be amazing,” she told Extra in April 2024 while discussing her next project. “It has to be—that is the only reason it’s not out yet. If I’m not feeling it and I’m not feeling like it represents the evolution, the time I spent away … there should be a show of growth, right?”

How many kids does Rihanna have?

Rihanna has two children: sons RZA (born May 13, 2022) and Riot (born Aug. 1, 2023).

Who is the father of Rihanna’s kids?

Rihanna shares both of her children with A$AP Rocky. Musically, the duo first collaborated in 2012 on the remix of her song “Cockiness (Love It),” which they performed at that year’s MTV Video Music Awards. While they continued working together and hanging out for the next several years, their relationship didn’t turn romantic until late 2019.

“We've known each other for a long time,” Rihanna told Interview in April 2024. “I've seen him in relationships. He's seen me in relationships. We've seen each other outside of relationships. We knew what we're capable of, and the trouble that we could bring to each other's lives. We can make or break each other's hearts. And so, we started dating with a lot of caution.”

Rocky, meanwhile, called Rihanna the love of his life in a 2021 interview with GQ. “So much better when you got the One,” he said. “She amounts to probably, like, a million of the other ones. … I think when you know, you know. She's the One.”

Who are Rihanna’s children?

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky welcomed their first baby, son RZA Athelston Mayers, on May 13, 2022. Even before he celebrated his first birthday, he was a fashion star, appearing on the cover of British Vogue with his parents in February 2023.

The Grammy winner has said that she thinks RZA looks more like her than her second son, Riot—mostly because he shares one of her most famous features. “The only thing I imagined [about motherhood] was probably the forehead on RZA,” she joked to Access Hollywood in December 2023. “Riot doesn’t have it. I’m like, ‘Wait, are you sure [this is my baby]?’ You can’t lose this thing!”

Rihanna also revealed that RZA is a fan of his mom’s singing. “There’s ‘Penguins Salute.’ There’s ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.’ Oh, my gosh. RZA gets really emotional about that,” she told Interview in April 2024, rattling off her little one’s favorite tunes. “Yeah, and now he’s really into ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes.’ ‘The Wheels on the Bus’ is a favorite from the beginning till now. That’s just a classic. It’s never going out of style. And oh, the new ‘Incy-Wincy Spider,’ because he gets like, ‘Ahh,’ like he thinks I’m going to tickle him when I sing that one.”

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s second child, son Riot Rose Mayers, arrived on Aug. 1, 2023.

In April 2024, the “Diamonds” singer noted that her youngest son was growing fast. “Riot is actually in all of RZA’s 1-year-old clothes already. He’s only 6 months,” she explained to Interview. “Everybody thinks Rocky dresses them because I dress them in Rocky outfits.”

“It’s this knowing that you can do anything, even things that seem the craziest, like, ‘I’m going to say yes to the Super Bowl in the middle of postpartum?’” she told British Vogue in February 2023. “What the heck am I thinking? But you’re geeked on a challenge like that because you know what your body just did. You feel this sense of ‘Nothing is impossible.’”

I would try for my girl. But of course if it’s another boy, it’s another boy.”

Her partner, A$AP Rocky, has also hinted that he’s not opposed to more. “I think we do a real great job at collaborating, making children,” he told Complex in November 2023 while discussing his and Rihanna’s best work together. “I think that's our best creation so far. Nothing's better than that out there, any design.”
