A Reimagined Pierre Koenig Home in L.A. Is Up for Grabs at $5.8 Million
A little over a year ago, digital entrepreneur Matthew Zehner doled out $4.9 million for a landmark midcentury-modern residence in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles. Now, the revamped property has returned to the market, newly dolled up and asking a speck under $5.8 million. Debbie Weiss of Compass holds the listing.
Originally designed in the mid-1980s by influential modernist architect Pierre Koenig as his personal residence—and since historically archived as Koenig House 2 by the L.A. Conservancy—the home has been thoughtfully restored and modernized during the current owner’s brief tenure. The result? A total of three bedrooms and an equal number of baths in roughly 2,800 square feet of triple-height living space boasting new Senso resin floors on the main floor, cabinetry and built-in storage units by California Closets, and upgraded finishes and automation systems throughout. The copious sliding glass doors were also reinstalled and waterproofed.

“I wanted to honor Koenig’s original design while making thoughtful updates that enhance livability, functionality, and longevity,” said Zehner in a statement. “Every decision was made with a deep respect for the home’s historical significance while ensuring it remains comfortable and efficient for modern living. Beyond its sleek, modern look, it’s also eco-friendly, plant-based, and fully sustainable, reinforcing [Koenig’s] philosophy of functional, forward-thinking design.”
Nestled beyond high hedges amid a narrow, gated parcel of land spanning less than a quarter of an acre, the boxy white steel-framed and glass structure is fronted by an entry courtyard. Once inside, highlights include a 30-foot atrium laced with bridges and staircases and topped with clerestory windows, as well as a fireside living room that connects to a small bookshelf-lined library. A formal dining area adjoins the marble-clad kitchen, which has a waterfall-edge island sporting a sink, top-tier stainless appliances, and an accompanying breakfast nook.
Elsewhere is a media room and an office space that served as Koenig’s studio, plus an upper-level primary suite boasting a private balcony, a trio of closets, and a bath equipped with dual vanities, a large rectanglular soaking tub, and a glassy shower. Outdoors, you’ll find landscaped grounds hosting a lap pool nestled alongside a detached carport that doubles as an alfresco entertaining terrace.
“The goal was never to change what makes this home special—only to enhance it in ways that feel natural, intentional, and true to Koenig’s original vision,” said Zehner, founder of an eponymously named E-commerce agency that was acquired by The Stable in 2021. “It’s timeless, iconic, and unlike any other home. We hope the next owner appreciates its history and experiences it as fully as we did.”
