“The No. 1 thing that has really surprised me and kind of rocked my world is the schedule,” she began. “I don’t think I was fully prepared for the breastfeeding schedule of just, like, how demanding it is. But it is a full-time job.”
Though Alex described figuring out every day’s breastfeeding schedule as doing “mental gymnastics,” she quickly added that she finds it “amazing that our bodies can do this and sustain this life.”

“Seeing her gain weight—I’m like, ‘That is my body that’s doing that.’ Like, that is incredible,” Alex said. “But it is a freaking marathon. And it doesn’t stop. You gotta wake up in the middle of the night. And I just don’t think I was fully prepared for how demanding the schedule is and how demanding it is mentally of constantly having to calculate things.”
As her Instagram Story updates continued, Alex listed finding time to catch up on sleep, battling postpartum “sundown scaries” and relying heavily on onesies as other surprising discoveries from her first few weeks of motherhood. She concluded her list by addressing the love she already feels for her infant daughter.
“I just love her so much, and I would literally lay my life down for her,” Alex said. “I could have never predicted the level of love that I would have for a little human. And just how worth it everything feels. And nothing feels like a chore—it’s all just things that we do.”
Sofia’s arrival last month made Drummond, 56, a grandmother for the first time. Like her daughter, The Pioneer Woman host has shared photo updates about the newborn on social media, providing fans with behind-the-scenes glimpses of how she's embraced her new role within her growing family.
