‘Rebel Moon’: Zack Snyder’s Director’s Cuts Set Late Summer Launch On Netflix

Zack Snyder unveiled today with Netflix that his Rebel Moon movies are getting directors cuts –and new titles– Rebel Moon – Chapter One: Chalice of Blood and Rebel Moon – Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness. Both are happening on Netflix on Aug. 2.

The original movies were titled Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire (debuted on Dec. 15) and the second was entitled Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver (which dropped on April 19). Between the two they brought in over 95M global viewers per the Netflix published top 10 charts, although Snyder himself in an interview with Joe Rogan believes Part One was watched by at least 160M people.

“So you think if that movie was in the theater as a distribution model, that’s like 160 million people supposedly watching based on that math,” Snyder told Rogan back in March. “160 million people at $10 a ticket would be…what is that math? I don’t know. 160 million times ten. That’s $1.6 billion. So more people probably saw Rebel Moon than saw Barbie in the theater, right?”

New shots were dropped for the director’s cuts, one of which is above. The new cuts will reportedly feature close to an extra hour of content, each movie already being two-plus hours. Snyder’s Justice League which hit HBO Max in 2021 came in at 4 hours and 2 minutes to the original movie’s two hours. They’ll also be R-rated.

Part One stars Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou and follows a peaceful settlement on the edge of a distant moon which finds itself threatened by a tyrannical ruling force. There, a stranger living among its villagers becomes their best hope for survival. Part two follows Boutella’s Kora, and the surviving warriors who prepare to defend Veldt, their new home, alongside its people against the Realm.
