Yahoo Lifestyle The reason Pamela Anderson no longer wears makeup is heartbreaking
Pamela Anderson - the 90s fashion and beauty icon renowned for her platinum blonde tousled updos, slim brows and intense eyeshadows - has recently revealed she's done a complete 180 in terms of her makeup look.
The 56-year-old opened up about her decision to take the fresh-faced route in a new interview with Elle, but it's not for the reason you'd think. In fact, there's a much more heartbreaking story behind it, after she explained to the outlet that she chose to abandon her signature glam aesthetic after her makeup artist, Alexis Vogel passed away from breast cancer in 2019.
"She was the best," she said of the artist. "And since then, I just felt, without Alexis, it’s just better for me not to wear makeup."
Pam also added that ditching her 90s persona felt "freeing, and fun, and a little rebellious," to her, mainly due to the fact that it's in her nature to go in a different direction from other people in order to retain her individuality.
"I did notice that there were all these people doing big makeup looks, and it’s just like me to go against the grain and do the opposite of what everyone’s doing," the Baywatch star said.
According to Pamela, her "freeing" new look is also a nod to ageing. Something she openly acknowledged earlier this year while speaking on the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard podcast. "I can’t wait to see myself old. I always said I’d recognise myself when I was old in the mirror," she said.
"I want to let my hair go kind of natural grey, put my little straw hat on, don’t wear makeup. I mean, that’s my comfortable kind of state, the actor added.
And while chatting with Elle, Pam expanded on how she's embracing her body and changing her appearance to this day.
"I think we all start looking a little funny when we get older," she reflected. "And I’m kind of laughing at myself when I look at the mirror. I go, 'Wow, this is really ... what's happening to me?' It's a journey."
