The reason why Disney princesses wear blue

From Ariel to Snow White, Elsa and Belle, you’ll notice that many of your favourite Disney princesses wear some shade or another of blue.

But what you might not have realised is that there’s apparently a very specific reason for this.

According to a colour expert, blue is supposed to send a message of strength and empowerment (even though most of our princesses end up needing to be rescued by Prince Charming…)

Blue is the colour of trust and confidence, as well as calm and serenity. We also seem to have a natural preference for blue because it’s the colour of the sky above us.

“It’s something to look forward to, to see that blue sky,” the executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute told Allure.

“It’s dependable. It’s reliable. It might cloud up, but we know it’s there.”

He went on to say that it’s a meaningful choice in the princesses’ costumes, saying, “You’re adding a bit of power to the character by giving her the blue.”

So basically Disney wants people to know that its princesses are the best because they are loyal, reliable and confident.

Even more reason to love them.
