Yahoo Lifestyle ‘Real Women Have Curves’ Musical Sets Opening Date And Venue For 2025 Broadway Run – Update
UPDATE, with opening date and venue: Real Women Have Curves will begin its Broadway previews on April 1, 2025, ahead of an opening night of Sunday, April 27. The production will play at the Shubert-owned James Earl Jones Theatre.
The venue currently is home to the limited run engagement of the play Left on Tenth.

PREVIOUS, Sept. 12: Real Women Have Curves, a new musical based on the 1990 play and subsequent 2002 film adaptation that starred America Ferrera, will debut on Broadway in 2025, producers announced today.
The musical, which had its world premiere in 2023 at American Repertory Theater at Harvard University, will feature music and lyrics by Grammy Award-winning artist Joy Huerta of the Mexican pop duo Jesse & Joy and composer/lyricist Benjamin Velez, book by Lisa Loomer with Nell Benjamin.
Sergio Trujillo will direct and choreography, with music supervision by Nadia DiGiallonardo. Real Women Have Curves will be produced by Barry Weissler, Fran Weissler, and Jack Noseworthy.
The synopsis: “Summer 1987, Boyle Heights, Los Angeles. After eighteen years under the roof of her immigrant parents, Ana is ready to spread her wings. Her dreams of college and a career in New York City are bursting at the seams, but her family’s expectations would keep her home, working at their garment factory (and being driven crazy by her mother). Is it worth sacrificing the dreams of her family by Ana fulfilling her own?”
Dates, cast and additional creative team will be announced at a later date.

Ana’s story is such a powerful and universal one that already holds so much cultural relevance, and we look forward to bringing it to new audiences in this musical format.”
The original 1990 play was written by Josefina López, who co-wrote the film version with George LaVoo.
Real Women Have Curves is produced in association with Peggy Koenig, Stan Ponte, John Gore Organization, Ira Pittelman, Michael Valdes, Michael P. Kruke, The Nederlander Organization, Ramesh Narasimhan, Emerald Drive, HGH Productions, Jared King, Peter May, James R. Schnepper, and Jayne Baron Sherman.
