The Real Reason Beverly Ortega Quit 'The Bachelor'

For decades, people have traditionally left The Bachelor by one means: Getting dumped by the lead. Whether eliminated formally at the rose ceremony, or dismissed on a date, that's by and large how suitors fall out of the running for the lead's romantic attentions.

On occasion, though, things can be a little different. And that's exactly what happened on tonight's episode of The Bachelor 2025 with Beverly Ortega. The 30-year-old was one of 14 women remaining in the game vying for the heart of Grant Ellis. The previous week, her name was called second at the rose ceremony, the fifth woman to receive a rose overall that week. It looked like, with the competition winnowing down, she could stand a chance at making a deep run in the season.

Unfortunately, that all got cut short on tonight's episode of The Bachelor. After making a connection with Grant, Beverly had been asked by the day trader to go on a one-on-one date, a prime opportunity to get him all to herself without any of the competition taking up space and time. Unfortunately, the date was never meant to be. All that was shown in the episode was that Beverly had gotten ill and had to leave.

Fellow contestant Parisa Shifteh told the cameras in a confessional, "Today was supposed to be Beverly's one-on-one with Grant. But yesterday morning she was very sick. And we found out that she will not be coming back to the house."

So, what happened to Beverly Ortega? According to Bachelor spoiler expert "Reality Steve," it turns out the insurance salesperson had to leave based on a medical issue that stemmed from the previous episode's date. In Episode 2, the majority of the women faced off in a five-on-five basketball game on the first group date of the season. And while the focus on the show was largely on the women fighting over Grant, Beverly allegedly was facing her own drama off-camera.

According to Reality Steve, Beverly was having trouble breathing while playing basketball. Producers forced her to sit out the second half of the game, after which she was checked out by production and sent to the hospital. While Reality Steve doesn't know what the exact medical condition was that caused her to be short of breath, it was serious enough to mean she wasn't cleared to return to the show.

At this article's time of publication, neither The Bachelor nor Beverly has posted on social media as to what exactly went down, including what diagnosis she received that meant she couldn't return. In the meantime, depending on the severity of it, we hope she's given another chance at love, whether on Bachelor in Paradise, or a return to The Bachelor on another season.
