'Reacher' Spinoff With Fan-Favorite Character Neagley Begins Filming

The third season of Reacher returns when the first three episodes, based on Persuader, the 7th book in the Jack Reacher series, begin streaming tomorrow, Feb. 20. In it, Frances Neagley (Maria Sten), who worked under Reacher while part of the U.S. Army 110th MP Special Investigations Unit, returns, even though she was never a part of that original story.

Rather Neagley, who initially appeared in the 2007 Lee Child book Bad Luck and Trouble, was written in after her character, who was introduced in Season 1, became a fan-favorite in Season 2. In fact, she became such a fan favorite that Prime Video is spinning her off into her own series tentatively titled Neagley, which is set to feature Alan Ritchson reprising his Reacher role as a guest star.

"We start filming tomorrow. Literally tomorrow," Sten told Men's Journal. "We are stuck in a snowstorm at the moment, but we're going to just shoot right through it because that's what we do in this franchise."

Announced in October 2024, Neagley will be set in Chicago, where the former military intelligence investigator now has her own private eye business. The series description as reported by Deadline is: “Frances Neagley is a private investigator in Chicago and former military colleague of Jack Reacher in the Army’s 110th Special Investigations Unit. When she learns that a beloved friend from her past has been killed in a suspicious accident, she becomes hell bent on justice. Using everything she’s learned from Jack Reacher and her time as a member of the 110 Special Investigators, Neagley puts herself on a dangerous path to uncover a menacing evil.”

At the time of its announcement, Reacher executive producer and showrunner Nick Santora, who developed the mothership series based on Child’s books, and Nicholas Wootton said, “Lee Child created an immensely rich character with Neagley, and Maria Sten brought her to life in such a vivid, authentic way in Reacher. Amazon, Skydance Television, and CBS Studios have been tremendous partners from the start, and we are excited to explore Neagley’s story further and dive into what makes her so unique.”

The stories that will be told in Neagley will not be derived from books, but will be completely original material.

"It's just whatever we've already established," Sten says. "We don't have [additional] source material for Neagley. What we're doing is brand new and original."
