“Queer Eye”'s Karamo Brown shares frustrating Juneteenth experience: ‘That’s the f---ery of this holiday’

The reality star is over the false platitudes.

Queer Eye star Karamo Brown had a very frustrating start to his Juneteenth this year. The reality show host shared his experience at a gym that was "celebrating" Juneteenth in all the wrong ways in an Instagram story posted Wednesday.

“I’m at this gym and they were giving out cookies to people for Juneteenth. I thought that was crazy already, but I literally sat and watched them give out cookies to white people for Juneteenth and skipped over every Black person, including myself. I swear to God," Brown shared while walking down a bright alley. "Now, I didn’t want the cookie, but I thought it was crazy as f— that you are literally giving out cookies on Juneteenth, to celebrate Juneteenth, and you skipped over every Black person that walked by you. So when I asked the girl she was like, ‘Huh?’ Huh? What do you mean?; And I was like, ‘Girl, bye.'"

Brown didn't share where he was or what gym he was at when the incident occurred, but he did share his frustrations with how the holiday was being treated.

"I just had to share that. That’s the f---ery of this holiday.… You know, I love [the holiday] but that’s the f---ery because I don’t think most white people understand what the f--- is going on today. [This] is a clear example. "

Juneteenth celebrates Black independence from slavery in the United States. It was made a federal holiday in 2021, one year after the nationwide protests spurred by the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police.

Entertainment Weekly reached out to Brown's reps for additional comment but did not hear back before press time.
