The royal family of Denmark have been left shocked after an accident happened right in front of them while they were watching the traditional Hubertus Hunt.
Princess Mary and her children Christian, 12, Isabella, 10, and six-year-old twins Vincent and Josephine, were watching the yearly hunt from the balcony of Hermitage Palace, north of Copenhagen.
It was a picturesque day in the woodland region when a shocking accident marred the end of the race.
Mary and her kids were seen gasping and covering their faces in shock as an official was hit by a racehorse right in front of them.
The man was treated immediately by paramedics and the royal family watched on nervously as an ambulance arrived and took the man away in a stretcher for further treatment.
Contestants had gathered in the square in front of the palace for the awarding of the Hubertus Chain, which was given to the winner by Princess Mary with the help of Princess Isabella.
Tens of thousands of people gathered to watch the cross-country horse race which marks the end of the hunting season in Denmark
It takes place every year on the first Sunday in November and about 160 riders were involved in this year’s event.
