Princess Charlene's $65,000 Engagement Ring Made a Rare Appearance in Monaco
You quite literally can't miss it.
Princess Charlene of Monaco's latest appearance is making waves—and not because of her lilac Louis Vuitton suit (though the look is chic enough to inspire some good headlines). The Monaco royal attended Monaco National Day on Tuesday and resurrected a flashy piece of jewelry that the public rarely sees her wear: a $65,000 engagement ring.
Charlene was spotted with her twins, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, and husband, Prince Albert II of Monaco, during the festivities, which included a balcony greeting and a Thanksgiving mass in honor of the special day. Charlene wore a light purple suit featuring a blazer with two statement buttons and a pair of tailored trousers styled with sheer black stockings, matching suede pumps, and a coordinating lavender fascinator. Fans were quick to call out Charlene's sparkler, as the royal typically forgoes any jewelry on her fingers.
The ring, which was gifted to her by Prince Albert, is believed to have been created by Parisian jeweler Repossi, according to U.K. jewelry retailer Steven Stone. The brand's experts describe the ring as a three-carat pear-cut diamond with smaller stones in a triangular formation on either side and estimate the piece to be worth approximately £54,000 or $65,000.
"Because of their distinct and unmistakable cut, pear-shaped engagement rings are believed to represent empowerment, individuality, and independence," said engagement ring expert Maxwell Stone. "It may come as a surprise to hear that the Princess rarely wears her sparkler, but this could be for a range of reasons–from discomfort as a result of its sizable center stone, to concern about damaging it. Kate Middleton, for example, typically removes her engagement ring whenever she is taking part in physical activities and sports."
Stone adds that the ring's price tag cements it as one of the top 25 most expensive royal engagement.
The royal recently made a rare comment about motherhood in an interview with French publication Gala.
"Gabriella is very curious," she said. "She is very intrigued by the world and life in general. She asks lots of questions and demands a lot of attention. As for Jacques, he is curious and observant. More reserved, he is naturally very calm."
"The conversations I have with Jacques and those with Gabriella are so different, as well as the time spent with them," she added.
