Princess Beatrice and Husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi Also Have a Super-Private Island Getaway They Like to Visit
Prince William and Kate Middleton have Mustique, Bea and Edo have Lamu.
Princess Beatrice, husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, and their children spend much of their time at their farmhouse in the Cotswolds, but the royal also has a private holiday getaway 6,400 miles away.
Speaking to Architectural Digest Middle East, Edo—who has been married to Beatrice since 2020—spoke in passing about the ultra-private home in Lamu, Kenya owned by his father, a former Olympic skier who later made a career as an art dealer (who is also an Italian count!).
According to Hello!, Lamu is an island just off the shore of Kenya. In fact, the outlet reported, Edo might have been inspired to name his property company Banda from the Swahili language, as “banda” means “house” in Swahili. (Edo founded the company in 2007 at just 23 years old and is founder, CEO, and creative director, per Town & Country.) As rumors about their romance intensified in 2019, Beatrice and Edo were spotted together in Lamu, Hello! reported, and the island is no doubt a vacation spot the new family of five turn to when they’re looking to escape in private.
Per The Daily Mail, the Mapelli Mozzi home in Lamu is “set on an isolated tip of the island” and “is one of just a handful in the area.” Beatrice and Edo aren’t the only ones who like to vacation in Africa—Prince William and Kate Middleton spent their 2011 honeymoon in Seychelles, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle famously undertook a third date getaway to Botswana where they fell in love.

The couple’s primary home is in the Cotswolds, a property Hello! called a “luxury farmhouse” purchased for £3.5 million ($4.4 million). “Ahead of moving in, they made major changes like flipping an outbuilding into a luxury guesthouse and installing more security features,” the outlet reported.
Giving a glimpse into his taste, Edo, a veteran property developer, told Architectural Digest Middle East, “To me, the beauty of imperfection is quiet luxury. I love [old] things that have been restored; human-made rather than machine-made—they’ve got soul, they’ve got energy. That’s got far more value.”
The couple’s family continues to grow, with the addition on January 22 of Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, who joins older sister Sienna Elizabeth (born in 2021) and older brother Christopher Woolf, affectionately known as Wolfie, who Edo shares with his ex Dara Huang.
Calling baby Athena “tiny and absolutely perfect,” Edo added in a sweet Instagram tribute that her family was “already completely besotted with her.”
“Our hearts are overflowing with love for you,” the proud dad wrote on January 29, one week after Athena's birth.
