Princess Beatrice Broke Royal Tradition With Her Daughter’s Name
Sienna is a nod to both her mother's hair color and her Italian heritage.
Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi, Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi's daughter, turns 3 today and according to a new report by The Mirror, her sweet name is actually a break from royal tradition. Sienna has the distinction of being 10th in line to the throne and being one of the cutest royal kids around. When Beatrice and Mozzi announced their daughter's name, it surprised many royal fans, as it didn't fall in line with Beatrice's sister, Eugenie's naming conventions. Eugenie's sons are named August and Ernest, who have a connection to Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert (full name (Francis Albert Augustus Charles Emmanuel). Ernest is the name of Queen Victoria's brother-in-law.
"They were looking for an Italian name which started with an S for Sarah, to honor the Duchess [Sarah Ferguson]," a friend said when Sienna was born. "And also reflected the golden rust color of both the Duchess's hair color and Beatrice's, which the new baby shares."
Ferguson started the tradition of honoring Queen Victoria, as her daughters' names also pay homage to the queen, who was named Eugenie Victoria Helena. Her daughter was named Beatrice, which is where Princess Beatrice gets her name.
Sienna, however, has no connection to Victoria and Albert. Elizabeth is a clear tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II, Beatrice's grandmother, and The Mirror adds that Sienna's Italian roots also connect to her father's family. His family is Italian nobility and he has the title of count.
Beatrice is also a stepmother to Christopher Woolf 'Wolfie," whom Mozzi shares with his ex, Dara Huang.
