As Kate Middleton's cancer treatment continues, royal experts and insiders have spoken up about the toll her illness has taken on the royal family — particularly on her husband, Prince William.

Speaking to People, royal biographer Ingrid Seward said, "For William, everything hinges on Kate's well-being."

Kate has taken a break from all official royal duties while undergoing treatment, while William and the couple's three children have also been keeping relatively private. An insider source explained, "William is prioritizing giving her all the time she needs to get better and the support, particularly to the children."

This comes after royal author Christopher Andersen reported to Us Weekly that the princess is staying positive behind closed doors for the sake of their young family. "[She] remains a ray of light in what can often be a suffocatingly stuffy environment behind palace walls," he said. However, as the couple's friend Amaia Arrieta reported to The Telegraph, despite Kate's cheerful demeanor, she and William are "going through hell."

Last month, William told a well-wisher that he would "look after" Kate throughout her treatment, and based on the most recent reports, he's been true to his word.

Kate Middleton's diagnosis came shortly after William's father, King Charles III, announced his own battle with cancer.

Speaking to People, royal experts confirmed that the double illness within the family had made things incredibly difficult for William. "Whether you're a prince or a pauper, no one would expect anything like this with his father and his wife both being treated for cancer," said an insider. "William is digging deep."

Royal author Robert Lacey added, "The double illness has placed enormous pressure on William, both as a parent and inheritor of the family business. It has brought all kinds of challenges. He [has handled] it with calmness and lack of drama.”
