What Prince William did that made Kate cry at Christmas
Prince William and wife Kate Middleton are set to spend Christmas with their three children and the rest of the royal family in Sandringham this year.
But despite enjoying every festive season together since they got married in 2011, this magical time of year hasn’t always been joyful for the Duchess,
According to royal expert Katie Nicholl, William left his wife in tears after cancelling their plans in 2006, reports The Express.
William’s shock change of plans
“At the last minute William had a change of heart,” she detailed in her 2011 book ‘The Making of a Royal Romance’.
His turnaround came after promising Kate he would join her family to celebrate Hogmanay — Scottish New Year celebrations — at Jourdonstoun House.
“He decided to stay with his own family instead,” she said, revealing he “informed a tearful Kate during a late-night conversation on Boxing Day”.
Kate questioned relationship
The shock change of plans reportedly left a devastated Kate questioning what it meant for their relationship.
Though it wasn’t widely known, the young couple had hit difficulties in their romance, with the author noting Kate had “good reason to be concerned”.
“William had been having second thoughts and sat down with his father and his grandmother to have a frank discussion about his future with Kate. Both advised him not to hurry into anything.”
Though there was trouble in paradise at the time – it was believed the pair were about to get engaged, however, William didn’t pop the question until 2010.
Happier than ever
Despite their rumoured rocky Christmas 12 years ago, the couple clearly managed to figure things out, tying the knot in April 2016 and now sharing three kids, George, five, Charlotte, three and Louis, seven months.
The family are said to be joining the Queen and the rest of the royal clan, including Prince Harry and pregnant Meghan Markle, for their festivities this year.
It’s also thought the 37-year-old’s mum, Doria Ragland, will be joining them — in an unprecedented invitation from Elizabeth II to help Meghan feel more at home.
Royal Christmases are ‘exhausting’
But while some royals clearly look forward to the holiday, Fergie has described it as “exhausting”.
The 59-year-old, who is mum to Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, was married to the Queen’s son, Prince Andrew, from 1986 until 1992 and spent many Christmases with the family.
